Orestis Alexakis

Edgar Degas , Melancolie, c.1869

And don't ask why I am sad

It 's because behind your silence travel

the caravans

of the forgotten

It 's because in your eyes shake

the shadows of the dead

the shapes of the beloved

It's because you look like a travel to the infinite

It s because you reveal new paths

It's because you shut

the trap doors

and you dawn in the new miracle

It's because in your glow I awake

as if I believe

I still exist

It's because I owe you so much sky

And I have nothing but a little soil

Orestis Alexakis, the Registrar,1989

Miltos Sachtouris

C. Polyzou,  Sounio, 2015

The bread

A big cob, a huge loaf of hot

bread had fallen in the street from the sky

a kid with short green pants and a knife

cut and offered the people around

but a little girl, a small white angel

with a knife also cut and offered pieces of real s k y

and all ran to her, few went to the bread,

all ran to the little angel who was offering s k y

Let's not hide it we are all thirsty for sky!

Miltos Sachtouris

Claude Monet, The Road to Giverny in Winter

Why should I care about the apple tree blossoms
that dawn every daybreak white on your paths?
My own paths are lost in real snow
where you  once slipped for a while
and I ran close to you a limb adolescent
                                     a winged foolish Eros
double of a foreign passion

-- there
where you slipped there to stay
 a butterfly
                  pinned

που ξημερώνουν κάθε αυγή λευκά τα μονοπάτια σου;

Vyron Leontaris 2

                                                            François Kollar, couple,1930

You have no right , I shouted, to carry
my own blame
But you were in an uncompromising silence.
Because there is no justice in love
– who does wrong who is wronged
what burdens us the most
crime or innocence?

Love is not given, it takes from us
and those who love they love cruelly
they ruin and get ruined.

And it was you who took all the blame
my fault my guilt my penalty.
There is no justice in love.

It's alright, you got resurrected.
As for me with my cross as a raft
I battle against the waves in dark skies

Vyron Leontaris, Hereafter, 2003

το κρίμα ή η αθωότητα;

 Hereafter

So full of you
how and where shall I call you from?
Your voice is poured inside me
and you can't hear me and I can't hear me
and I look for you and Ι can't find you
because you are where I am
and I am where you are
and none of us is where he is.

Undefined in the world
a ripple we are a tremble
-- They called it love
they called it poetry...

I wish we were to meet
outside myself
outside yourself
cause time goes by and I get dark.

On my west I' ve always wanted you to be
for you to nod
from the depths of the days

πώς κι από πού να σε φωνάξω;

Julia Fortouni

Michalis Economou, houses with a boat

The house by the sea

I 've always wanted a house by the sea.Not for the horizons,

nor for the crashing of the waves.Just for the decay.

For the windows to warp. For the hinges to get rusty.

For memory to creak merciless. For longings to come in.

For me to pull up amphorae with coins.

As for you, remorseless, with a trident.

Me to write in tears.

I've always wanted a house by the sea. Me and all my broken clocks.

And you, remorseless -- a trident.

Julia Fortouni, "Bite of writing", Mandragoras 2015

To nest in sea bushes
in the light of the stone the water lilies of the foams to dress you
in your breasts seagulls to weave seashells

Your steps

the time when stars open

when music begins in the heart

Then you are guided by your steps.

Nikiforos Vrettakos

Yannis Adamakis , a small voyage,2014

By leaving you come...

By now you know: mountains cannot

keep us apart. By leaving you come.
By leaving I come . There is no other space
beside our space. And the wind
is the touch of our hands.
As we travel,
you to the north, me to the south,
looking at the sun, each of us has
the other by his side.

Nikiforos Vrettakos, Time, travel and distance,1961

Lawrence Alma Tadema, A World Of Their Own, 1905(detail)

When tomorrow becomes today

when we meet in spring
in a next life
look  again
deep into my eyes
remember my touch
how desperately
I had once fallen in love with you.

when tomorrow becomes today
in Valparaiso or in Vladivostok
in a remote planet of our galaxy
don't forget me.

over our little self
and beyond death
let the two of us become forever
that everlasting flame on the ground
a red cloud in the sky.

 Tolis Nikiforou,  Lighted Windows 2014

Yiannis Ritsos

                 Dimitris Kondilis

The poems I have lived in your body in silence,
will ask me, someday, when you leave, their voice  back.
But I'll have no voice anymore to pronounce them. Because you always used
to walk barefoot in the rooms, and then  you used to shrink in bed
a skein of feathers,  silk and wild flame. You were crossing your arms
around your knees, leaving your dusty rose feet provocatively stretched.
Remember me – you told me – like this;
exactly like this remember me with my dirty feet; with my hair
thrown over my eyes– because like this I can see you deeper. So,
how can I have a voice anymore? Never has  Poetry walked in such a way
under the all white apple trees in bloom of any Paradise.

Yiannis Ritsos, Words of flesh, 1981

Oath

You that have covered me with your dense anonymity
traveller of the night that has passed
you I have never memorized- but you stood
so deeply mine, so untouched
in the mingling of the rest, so clumsy
in their shouts and haughty
yet so authentic and vulnerable
in your slightest vibrations, as
what we have lived or hoped for is meant to be
in a trill or in a tear always missed

Traveller of the night that has passed
poetic eloquence, technique of a verse that can be learned
suppleness of an expression consciously conquered
climaxed emotion you can direct

Not a single erotic verse anymore, I swear to you.

Nikos Alexis Aslanoglou

And our beloved dead?

Eyes long forgotten
lips their sound  has faded away
dearest voices of silence.

And we?

Vivamus atque amemus.

Of course we'll live
we'll certainly love
but most of all , we'll be loved.

Chryssanthie Polyzou

Κι οι αγαπημένοι μας νεκροί;

Κι εμείς;

Vivamus atque amemus.

So strange it rains on breakups

So strange it rains on breakups,
It always rains.

You see everything  flickering blurry
behind a window pane
hit by merciless rain.
You start wiping it
but the water
instantly over the other water
it makes it more ane more blur
while withdrawing in the street
a completely undefined shape
and there it is! vague , hesitating for a while
before getting dissolved in the rain.

It rains on breakups.

Even if it shines bright under the light
the whole world.

So strange ! It rains,

it always rains.

Stavros Vavouris

 Pierre Bonnard,The letter, c1906

ΤHE LETTER

In your coat's pocket
old sesame seed
pistachio shells
and my crumpled letter.
Words awoke
phrases stretched
I have crackled for months inside
days of cold
nights hung in silence
in case you might hear
I ve changed the punctuation broadening hints
I had myself cut and tailored
fitting  your probable desires.
But now entering the summer
with the perspectives of our future  clear
instead of crushing myself jumping
or you erasing me
by sending your coat to the dry cleaner's
I 'll cringe  I 'll shrink
into sesame or paring
and I 'll grab myself by the seams for ever.

Someday I 'll be touched by your fingers.

Yiannis Varveris, Of war invalids, 1982

TO ΓΡΑΜΜΑ
