Nikos Karouzos

Martin Johnson Heade,Orchid and Hummingbird near a Mountain Waterfall,1902

First  dialogue

As if we never existed
still we ached from the depths.
Not even an explanation was given to us
at least for the fragrance of flowers.
The other half of our age will pass
pretending gambling with death .
And we said love has no time
to appear in person.
A music
worthy of our thrills
was never heard.
We were found  in an intermission of this world
every man for himself.
We will be saved by a sweetness
crowned with thorns.
Silent flowers rejoice
with  calyxes' concentration
terror in your heart gets refined.
Deep  inside Lord operates
deep inside we coexist.
Subtle soul has no rocky passions
and always sings the song of patience.
Oh we shall return to beauty
one day...
With the sacrifice of the surrounding phenomenon
soul will  recapture its solitude.

Nikos Karouzos, Dialogues ,1956

 The woman - butterfly

Every woman hides
Α butterfly in her breasts
And every time she sets it free
Thousands of dreams revive

Giorgos Gotis

                                                                                     Vassilis Perros

With rifleshots the place was blooming

days of migratory birds

and you're still not here.

A few words of a farewell

we exchanged as rings.

A stone's cast your arrival

and when I call your name

my breath sticks on my face, on my hair.

Wind from your cloth blows me

as I try to unfold

the map of your figure...

Poetics

As for me that don't even know yet if I believed in God

I have just  lived for the pleasure of talking with angels

 at nights.

Τhe sea becomes a garden

The world is shrinking and the sea is becoming a garden,
the light dries up on the naked piers.Tears are covered
with whitewash.White , surgery sheet
covers the restless hands.

The world is shrinking but you my bleeding heart, fruitful pomegranate,
once again you take me along a passenger leading me to a wreck again.
Once again shivering like a bird in the snow, like the  hope of a prisoner.

Tassos Korfis, Handicrafts, 1977

Of big countries

Oh how many are the poems experienced and not written...
In station cafés or busy platforms
When the get-together follows the mess,
And you must join the crowd
Or wait in vain for the night passenger.

Oh how dear are those places when empty
With you staying still, between earth and sky
Like a cypress,
That dreams for years to  leave the graves and become
A mast on a ship.

Beautiful summer

It was beautiful this summer
Beautiful but dangerous

A sandbathing old man
Was forgotten burried in the sand
When remembered after days
His hat was lifted
And   he was missing

An  all white tourist from the north
Had an affair with the sun
She slept with him for  days months
Then got darker and assimilated by the landscape
Her people are seeking her
Through the red cross

A beaten child became a sea urchin
Let them come now
Let them beat me again , he said
His mom and dad took
Knife and fork
And without getting  pierced
They ate his heart

A hunted dog
Bit its tail and ate it
Then it ate all its body
Only its head was left on the pebbles
To become whitewashed licked by the waves

In the background a boat stayed still
Still for a whole summer
Winds were blowing inflating the sails
She did not mean to leave. What was she waiting for?
Nobody knows.

Δεν έλεγε να φύγει. Τι περίμενε;
