Chatzichristodoulou Maria

          Artwork by Joachin Sorolla

Twenty-year-old girl in summer time
 Mother of pearl your shoulders
And on your palms are carved
 the paths of love
 Your eyes draw August moons
 How beautifully your eyelashes smile
And how many secrets are hidden
in the edges of your lips.
 That dimple in your neck
a small dive for a starfish
 Your tender hand
seaside for seagull strolls
Girl who dives her lace foot in the dusk.
The night becomes foam for you,
 your breath a sea breeze
 And how brave the love
that will open its sails
to take you on a journey

Twenty-year-old girl, who will bring you the archer as a gift in return?
And who will set up a dance in the moonlight river
 for you
whose hair is entangled with shooting stars.

Maria Chatzichristodoulou

Amalia Tsaknia

Wilhelm Hammershoi, Interior

They just leave one day

 the ones  we loved

they turn the corner of the street

 without even a farewell nod.

Now the house has more space

 we are moving some furniture

 we tidy up

there are some old papers left on the table

 receipts and bills

 we discreetly collect them

but when we go to burn them they don't burn

 they squish on our fingers

we tear them into small pieces

we bury them in the garden

but in the evening  they are on the table still

 yellowed

 burnt on the edges

and we go in and out of the house abstractly

 which now has more space

because one by one the ones we loved left

so simply and quietly one day

they turned the corner of the street.

 Amalia Tsaknia

To my Mother

 In her autumn garden

the lord of oblivion set up a trap.

 Sea daffodil,

  tender stem,

 my mother.

 The Horn of Amalthea

  on her lap

 and her heart

 orchard in full bloom.

Polyzou Chryssanthie

           AUGUST

On the stone threshold of August
the spiers of cicadas shatter the day.
The figs are growing sweeter
 next to the arbutus
 and the dry pine needles.
Two swallows peck at the heart of noon

The poem is dripping with summer.

Chryssanthie Polyzou

 ATHENS OF APRIL

 Untangled city

 with purple hills

 where the eternal

 caresses the ephemeral.

 Whispers of chamomile

 screams of the poppy,

 the charms of April.

 In every corner

it gives you  the   intimacy

of an  old mistress,

 Athens.

Omonoia- Ano Petralona

Girl- power of the bus in the evening

you are sitting beside me like

a fair flower behind a fence like

a star walking on my bosom

but still saying : I am leaving.

You are sitting beside me sinking into my eyes

like into a scenery you long for but can't love

drawing in the silence that keeps you tied up

your beloved.

Always drowned in my eyes

always tied up by silence

looking back on old musics to come and set you free.

But the music does not come and you

are sitting beside me

always drowned in my eyes

always tied up by silence

with your heart broken like a little bird

with your beauty drifting like a little  child

you are sitting beside me

like a flower and like a star and like love that wishes

but can't.

I have notebooks , glazed paper, I like

I won't get old soon- it will

I ll have high school, my degree,

I ' ll have a big mouth, clothes

Helmer Osslund(1866-1938), Autumn mood

Fall

Migratory words

you are carrying in your bag

and my sadness

little rain drops

on the windowpane

Fall is the perfect season

 for goodbyes

As if the rain expects to wash us away

from every ending.

Chryssanthie Polyzou

Ως πότε;

Auguste Rodin, Pygmalion and Galatea, 1908

I form you little by little every night.
Every crack of dawn I crumble and fall with you.

I 'll never see you as a whole.
Nor will I have you. Every time
your limbs are  freshly made and scattered.
I ve been omnipotent for your sake
 but not  a God.
What shall I do with such omnipotence
when miracles are forbidden?

Michalis Ganas

Dione Dimitriadou

Detail of Portrait of a Woman Holding a Pencil and a Drawing by Robert Lefèvre, ca. 1808

[With a soft pencil]

With a soft pencil  sliding on a piece of paper
poems of love are written

The other, the hard one of eros,
asks for a sharp  spike
To fall violently and engrave the pages

And when the paper becomes a rag
it asks
to  write on
your very flesh

Who said that love  is just for fun?
Nor is poetry for sure.

Dione Dimitriadou

ποιος είπε ότι αστειεύεται ο έρωτας;

Each love story

is a language.

Until you conquer

its grammar,

the exceptions,

all the irregular verbs

one of its two native speakers

has already fallen to dementia.

Myrsini Gana

Titos Patrikios

                                              Amedeo Modigliani, The Young Apprentice

TO KEEP LEARNING

When some day you get to discover
how many more illusions you sustained
When you are made to acknowledge
all those you had never wished to admit
when  even the last idol falls
in which you used to put your faith

only then you may get to learn
how deep they go , how dark are
the roots of every deed you took.

Titos Patrikios, apprenticeship again

The problem with the pronouns

We say we and we mean I

we say you and we mean I

we say he and mean I again .

Basically only by “I”

we can comprehend

the other…

Chryssanthie Polyzou

Old Centaur teased by Eros, roman copy of a classical greek original, Louvre

I was trying to hear you

by being an apprentice

to the sound of absence.

Where does all that Love go

when eyes lose sight of eyes

and lips embrace silence?

Does it become a night prayer or

a Centaur shirt to scratch

the tender flesh of the word?

Chryssanthie Polyzou , Oropedio spring summer 2018

τη σιωπή;

της λέξης;

Dora Kaskali

Marc Chagall, Les Amoureux - 1928

His words

You wave me·
scratching the walls of habit.
You set me free
paying as bail
topazes, moonstones, cobalt. Eye amulets.
You drag me intο your light
you, lantern of the after rain
crystal that returns my reflection clear.
Relaxed.
You tame the scorpion
I was feeding on my arm
I lean on your sand dune
thirsty mouth and all my limbs get wet.
You make me give birth to words
I call anticipation
engulfing your spirit
I break you, pieces
of flesh, of guilt, of lust and deprivation.
I put you on, my little
installation
eerie monster
my treasure.

Said he.

Let his poem be done.

Dora Kaskali, Somewhere to lean on, Melani 2018
