Healing

Wish it or not
most of the wounds were healed as time went by.
And who 's  to see the way they crawl
silently , under the skin
like inner spiders...

Titos Patrikios, Disputes

  ORDEAL

And as for you,

with all what we have passed together

nothing inside you has been crippled

don't be too proud.

Maybe you had nothing to put at stake.

Aris Alexandrou

                                                           Kazimir Malevich, The knifegrinder, 1912

The knife

As the steel takes time to become a sharp and useful knife
so do the words they take time to get sharpened  into speech
In the meantime
while  working on the grinder
be careful not to be carried away
                                                    not to get arrogant
by the bright sequence of the sparks.
Just mind the knife.

Aris Alexandrou, Straightness of roads, 1959

the wake

They are all asleep
I stay awake
I pass on  a gold  thread
silver moons
and wait till it gets dawn
for  a new man
to be born
in my heart
so frozen
by wild ghosts
and all that dark bitterness.
Miltos Sachtouris, The clocks turned upside down, 1998

Come on let's live our love

so the whole world

will take us for crazy.

Nikos Alexis Aslanoglou

Abbott Fuller Graves, On the deck

 Let us suppose...

Let us suppose that all went well
that we travelled together and the city glowed
and the deck was filled with music
and the sea was ours and the land
was flowery like an orchard in bloom
let us suppose we travelled infinitely
and your love welled in your eyes-

No need to talk , no remedy can be of use
no change in blood can last.

Nikos Alexis Aslanoglou

                                                                                        Brassaï ,"the kiss"

For every kiss given, for each and every kiss,

one per cent consists of eternity

and all the rest of the risk to be the last one...

Sleep

On top of the hill I ' ve made your bed with pine needles
and scattered  upon  them sunbeams
on top  I 've spread a smile for  your body to be at ease.

And I told time not to wake you.
Or , better, to wake you up as late as possible,
cause most of the time things happen just once
even if all days are alike and the sun eternal.

Nikiforos Vrettakos, The time and the river , 1957

He doesn't see I cant dissolve

Meskos Markos

                                                                      Alphonse Osbert , lyric poetry

Every poem begins with a title (if any).

The authentic poem has its before and its after for sure.

The present is claimed by  a bunch of suitors.

Every night
I throw my heart to the sea
every dawn
I find it on the sand
a stone
washed ashore by the wave
I clean it from the seeweeds
I wash it from the seasalt
I engrave stories on top
and carry it for a while
in my pockets
since you refused it
and gave it back to me
till it gets dark again
to throw it back to the sea
a recurrent sacrifice
with the hope it's all over one day
and my offer is accepted
by keeping my heart
in your seabottom
among seashells
and other human wrecks

Charalambos Giannakopoulos

                                                                               Christos Bokoros , the essentials

In Eumaeus's hut

It's so nice over here, said Ulysses
drinking his sweet wine
eating the meat
offered by Eumaeus,

let it never be over that moment
when we sit and tell stories,
half false  half true,
and outside our door the dogs lay in the sun.

Charalambos Giannakopoulos (Letters to a very young poet)

Manolis Anagnostakis, chess

The chess

Come on let's play...
I 'll offer you my queen.
(She was once my favourite.
I have no favourite anymore)

I'll offer you my rooks
(I no longer shoot at my friends
they have  already been dead before me)

This king has never been mine.

And after all what shall I do with all these soldiers?

(They are moving forward, blind ,without even  a dream)

Everything, even my knights I will give you

I 'll only keep this crazy bishop

who knows how to cross only in one colour

striding from one end to the other

laughing in front of so many armours of yours

suddenly striking your lines

agitating your solid factions.

And this game has no ending.

Manolis Anagnostakis

Κι ύστερα τόσους στρατιώτες τι τους θέλω;
